Now that it's mid-Summer, hella-toes will once again be hosting more Death Note events and activities!

We are kicking off with a series of Death Note Fanfiction Quilts that are open to ALL members! If you haven't done a fanfiction quilt before, or have no idea what one is, you must give it a try. They are really fun and addicting!

We are going to be creating a total of 5 separate fanfiction quilts for all of you, beginning with both a "Traditional" and "Yaoi" fanfiction to get started. The others will be added in a few weeks. :-D

HELLA-TOES' FANFICTION QUILTS - A HELPFUL GUIDE

Question: Fluffy, what is a fanfiction quilt? Is it comfy?

Answer: A fanfiction quilt in the simplest of terms is when people take turns writing the next part of the story. It's almost like RPing....but as a spectator. (lol)

ANY club member may contribute to the fanfiction quilt, and you do not need to ask permission before contributing.

However, as a result, there unfortunately must be rules that all contributors to the fanfiction quilt must follow so as to keep the story from turning into a hellish fire of crack and gay sex (as fun as that sounds).

Rule 1) Each Contribution Must Be Between 5 and 10 Paragraphs. If your part follows all other rules, we might allow exceptions, but just try not to make it too short, like "...AND THEN..." or too long.

Rule 2) Each Contribution Must Be "Open-Ended." This just means that you can't have a solid, obvious goal in mind for the end of the story, like "L must find the holy grail," because then we will already know what the end of the story will likely be.....L finds the holy grail.

Rule 3) No Crack in any fic except a crack fic quilt. So no "L and Light have a fart contest" or something.

Rule 4) No Alternative Reality in any fic except an AU fic quilt. So no "L is the lead singer of a band at his high school in Arizona" or something.

Rule 5) No OCs, or at least not any with a major role in the story, like "L's first girlfriend named Cindy who is also a genius" or something.

Rule 6) No Yaoi or Any Other Non-Legit Pairing in any fic except a yaoi fic quilt. If it's a yaoi fanfiction quilt, then of course it can have yaoi. Otherwise, keep it out. Sorry. :<

Rule 7) NO Pedoing, Excessive Cursing, Cutting/Graphic Suicide, MPREG, Gender Swapping, NonCon (Rape), Graphic Sex, Furries, Crossovers, "Fetish Fics" (like vore or ballooning), or Deliberate Misspelling/Text Speak/All Caps, etc. It's not that these are all bad things (although I consider some to be XD), but we just want to make certain that the story doesn't get too esoteric to any one person's tastes. That way everyone can enjoy writing for the quilt, regardless of their personal tastes.

As long as you follow these simple rules, you will be fine.

Question: What happens if my contribution does not follow these rules?

Answer: Unfortunately, if we get a submission that breaks the rules above, such as a part of the story loaded with crack or an OC, then it will be deleted by the mods.

Sorry, but we have these rules in place to keep the fanfiction enjoyable to write for everyone, so please don't take it personal if it is deleted for that reason. It does not mean your fanfiction is "bad," it just won't work for "quilting purposes."

Question: What if my contribution is deleted for not following the rules?

Answer: If the part you contribute to the fanfiction does not follow the rules and is deleted, you may edit it so that it does follow the rules, and then resubmit it.

It won't be accepted by the mods until it follows the rules, and repeat submissions of a part that does not follow the rules can lead you to be banned from the club.

Question: What if I was starting to write a contribution to the fanfiction quilt, but then someone else posted the next part before I did? D:<

Answer: Unfortunately, with a community as large as ours, it is too difficult to "save slots." Plus doing so makes us run the risk of someone saying they're going to do the next part....and then weeks later we're still waiting on them to do so. :-/

Therefore, we have to run the fanfiction quilt on a first-come-first-serve basis. So if someone posts the next part before you do, you will have to just ether edit your part so that it comes next, or start over.

This is why I strongly recommend not writing too much more than 5 paragraphs.

Question: What if I have a question about the fanfiction quilt, or I am not sure if my idea will follow the rules?

Answer: Ask #hella-toes through a note. We'll be happy to answer it for you.

Question: Okay, got it! Now how do I contribute to the quilt?

Answer: Do the following:

1) Simply write your part to the story, and upload it to your DA account as a deviation.

2) It MUST have the fanfiction quilt title + the number to the part of the story as the title. (Example: "L and The Secret Garden - Part 8")

3) After your story has been made a devation, you will submit it to #hella-toes to be added to the story by A) Going to your Deviation Page, B) Clicking on the "Submit to a Group" button, located under "Featured in" on the right side of your devation page, C) Clicking on "hella-toes," and D) Selecting "Submitted to: [The Name of The FanFiction Quilt You Are Submitting To]." <-- Don't forget this last step.
